After a LONG four semesters, I am proud to have my master's degree. Although it was tough at times, it was such a happy time in my life. I had three of my best girlfriends with me along this journey and enjoyed getting to spend two, sometimes three, nights a week eating at Guthrie's followed by great classes. I really will miss the time I had with these girls! I love you Jodi, Randi, and Laurie!

Our Last Hoorah!

As a tribute to our last day of summer, we traveled to Tennessee. I really thought this would be an extremely exciting and educational trip. We were up early and actually left on schedule. Our plan was to get there just as they opened so we could take our time and just enjoy the day. The drive was great. The girls were calm and had very few arguments. When we arrived at the aquarium, we couldn't believe the awesome park we were able to snatch. Little did we know, after two attempts and twenty dollars lost, the parking lot machines that print tickets were not working. We had to call the number on the machines and wait on an attendant to arrive all while trying to explain to the girls what patience means. Thirty minutes later, we were refunded our money, given a parking slip, and on our way to see the fish! Let me just say, we covered the ENTIRE Tennessee aquarium (both exhibits) in less than an hour. WHAT!?!

Mallory: (cutting us off mid-sentence)"That's neat, let's go to the next one."

This was pretty much how the entire trip went. I will say, the highlight was actually outside of the aquarium when they were able to walk through a stream and climb stairs. Hmmm, these little exhibits were ALL FREE. Wish I would have known that before traveling two hours, paying for tickets, and buying toys at the gift shop they will never play with. Next time, we will go to a park. :)

Six Flags

After eighty-two renditions of the song, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", we finally made it to Six Flags! I was very apprehensive because I had not been in YEARS! I certainly had never been with toddlers which in itself was enough reason to think of medicating before the trip. To my pleasant surprise, the park was not crowded! This really excited me because every time I think of Six Flags, I get this stench of body odor in my nose. There is something about walking by hot, smelly, and wet adults that can really trigger your gag reflex.

There were soo many rides for the girls! This too, was a huge surprise! I guess because I never have stepped foot into Bugs Bunny Land. I mean, why would I before now? Anyhow, the girls had a thrilling time! They even rode a roller coaster! Apparently, this new ride, Canyon Blaster, is a mini version of the Mine Train (which they were not tall enough to ride). We were able to get them on Splash Waterfall and Thunder River also! I would also like to add, that we were SOAKED! I highly recommend taking a change of clothes. It was really ridiculous. It felt great at the time, but thirty minutes later of my wet thighs rubbing together was not FUN! At one point, I looked down and saw sparks igniting. Ugh. All in all, it was a wonderful day full of fun, thrills, and laughter!

There is no calmer time than riding on a boat while you look over at your children. It's just something about being on a huge body of water and seeing God's perfect creation all around.

On a funny note...Ms. Randi decided to ride the inner tube. I am so glad that I was able to capture that pivotal moment when she glided across the lake!!! hahaha

Rest In Peace

It has been five days since Sophia has had her "paebi". I could not be happier! Yet, I feel a bit sad because seeing her with it let me think of her as my baby. Now, without it in her mouth all day, I actually see that she is not a baby at all! I can also hear what she is saying because it's not muffled by the nipple in her mouth!!! I LOVE YOU FIFI!!!

The girls had a very exciting day! The place where they take gymnastics had a special camp for Fairytale Princesses. They wore pretty dresses, tiaras, and even had wands. They glittered up, read stories, and danced! At the end, they presented what they had learned for all the parents! Priceless...

My girls waited frantically for their next gym class and today it finally arrived! Sophia had a little trouble though. She was feeling extra shy...As you can see below, Phillip is trying to "take off" before she has a melt down.

Of course...it did not work and I immediately scooped her up and loved on that baby. I had been gone all day to a workshop so I am sure she just needed a little mommy time.

After about ten minutes, she perked up and my sweet friend Crystal was able to take her back into the class. I am happy to report she stayed the rest of the hour and had a blast!!!

Today the girls had an appointment for a "well" checkup.

Next came the shots! Sophia got four and Mallory only got one! During this time I would have promised my girls ANYTHING to get them to stop crying. Fortunately, they settled on going to see Toy Story 3 (in 3D) and to buy some special toys afterwards!

Today was a momentous occasion. My baby girls started their very first gymnastics class. This is something I have been looking forward to for a very long time. I remember going as a little girl and being so excited to get home and show my mommy everything I had learned. When I myself became a mommy to two little girls, one of my exciting visions was of them dancing and tumbling in their little leotards while we anxiously bit our fingernails and shook nervously while holding our video camera. Today was bittersweet. I am so happy to have my vision come true, yet so sad to think my little babies are growing quicker than I can handle.

PCB Babies!

Well, the cabin fever finally got to us. On Monday, we decided to be spontaneous, pack our bags, and hit the road. Where would we go? Where else but PANAMA CITY BEACH! Some of our friends were already there so it was even more exciting to be going! My mother came with us and I am so glad! The girls absolutely adore her and are always concerned when she is not with us! We arrived Tuesday and came back Saturday. What a fabulous, fabulous trip! We originally had planned to stay until Friday, but because it was so beautiful we stayed an extra night. The girls played hard all day and slept wonderfully at night! Of course the food wasn't bad either! It seems like all we did was eat, eat, eat, eat, and eat some more! Which, is really perfect for the diet I had been on. Oh well, as our good friend Chris would say, "That's how you do it at the beach!"

Ice Cream Cone...CAKES!!!

I made these adorable cones for my daughter's fourth birthday party! The theme was ice cream and I never could find a cake that I just fell in love with. So, I had a quick spark of creativity and decided to roll with it! Unfortunately, I am no baker and just a mediocre cook, so I was very hopeful these would turn out!

*I started by baking vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. I also baked the same amount of mini cupcakes (you will need a mini to go with each regular size cupcake). One box of cake mix made 24 regular size and 24 mini cupcakes.

**Next, I took plain cones (48 to be exact). I stood them up in a mini muffin pan. I filled each one with a handful of skittles. After the cupcakes finished baking, I filled the cones with one regular cupcake turned upside down.

***The next step is to take a dollop of icing and put it on the bottom of the mini cupcake(this serves as the glue) and attach it to the top of the regular cupcake.

****Finally, I iced both cupcakes. I used extra creamy icing in a large Ziploc bag. I cut the tip off and piped the icing on. I mixed in food color to make the pink.

I would also like to add that I ran out of icing and had to make another trip to the store. While I was there, I saw these little bad boys and will definitely use these next time!!!

They come in all colors and weren't at all messy like the Ziploc bags can be!!!

*****I topped with sprinkles and red skittles. They were a big hit at the party! ENJOY!!!

The festivities began bright and early this morning for Mallory's birthday! The theme for Mallory's party was ice cream. I began the morning by making these adorable "ice cream" cone cakes.

These cones are not at all filled with ice cream. They actually have skittles, cupcakes, and icing in them. I will post the steps to make these cuties a little later!

It was an extremely busy and HOT day. The girls went to Gran's house so that we could actually be productive and get my to-do list accomplished. The guests arrived around 4:00 and the real party began!

Today was my big girls birthday! She turned four and I am still wondering where the time has gone. It seems like yesterday I was watching her sleep in her wee little bassinet. I still get amazed when I look at her. I can't believe that she is all mine. I can't believe God gave her to me and trusted that I could be her mommy. Thank you, Lord, for giving me Mallory.

We started the day bright and early! I could hardly sleep awaiting the moment she would see her new playhouse. We blindfolded her so she wouldn't see until we got outside!

Her first glimpse was priceless!

They had so much fun! They came in and out of that house 82 times! It was so funny watching them act like "grown ups". They cooked, cleaned, talked on the phone, and even managed a trip to Wal-Mart. They were really taking "playing house" seriously. At one point, Mallory even got on her play cell phone and called the police. She told them she had an emergency and to come quick because the big bad wolf was trying to break into her house.Hilarious!

Later that evening some of my family came over for cake and ice cream. Mallory told me she didn't want a cake though. She wanted brownies and so I whipped up a batch. We have discovered the most delicious kind. It is Betty Crocker's Supreme with Icing. Yummmmmy!

We did get her a few little gifts to open tonight. Her actual party will be Saturday! It's a week long celebration for birthdays in our house!!!

Perfect Present...

Well, after an entire day of building and painting, the playhouse is complete! I am so excited and happy with the way that it turned out!!! The girls have been at Gran's house all day so that we could hide it! Tomorrow is Mallory's birthday and we plan on taking her out FIRST THING in the morning. I can't even imagine what her reaction will be. I will definitely have my camera ready!

Can't Hardly Wait

Tonight when I was at Wal-Mart, I was on a mission. I HAD to decide what to get Mallory for her birthday. We have talked about playhouses, bikes, dolls, etc. I really, really wanted her (and Fi) to have a little house outside that was just theirs. I envisioned them cooking and playing mommy and basically just playing "house". As a little girl, those were my favorite things to do. I have looked online at different playhouses and never could find one that I just fell in love with. They were either too little or just too PLASTIC! Mallory will be four Wednesday and I wanted her to have something a little more realistic that can grow with her (and Fi). So, I SAID ALL THAT TO SAY....as I was walking over to the bicycles...my breath was taken away. THERE IT SAT...THE ONE...I couldn't believe it. THIS WAS NOT ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The playhouse is solid wood and ADORABLE and most of all...ITS BIG! We also bought pink paint so that we can change the green roof and window color! She will be shocked! I can't wait to show pictures of her seeing it for the first time!

We really had a great (and busy) Saturday! We started the day at Nana's house (Phillip's mom). We swam and ate some incredible food. Peggy (Nana) is a true southern grandmother that always has something cooking. I wish I could cook like her! The girls really had a blast playing in her new pool and with all of their cousins. Nana has six grandchildren and five of them are girls!!! She has always told me that the Good Lord knew what He was doing when He blessed her with so many grand girls. She has three sons and always wanted a little girl. It's amazing how life happens. Now, she has more little girls than she knows what to do with!

We ended the night at the lake with some friends. I took my first boat ride at night. It was so peaceful. We also did a little karaoke. Phillip is the best!!! He even got into costume for his song...(excuse the picture quality please...)

Why does my child's legs look as though she has been in a concentration camp? I am just wondering if posting this picture will spark an interest in a social worker from DHR. Is it normal that her legs are this badly bruised? I promise we are not beating her! She is just so active and clumsy I guess. I mean, do we need to put her in chin guards and knee pads? We were invited by some of our sweet friends to go camping. I have to say I was a bit anxious about this because being the sheltered child and adult that I was and am, I had never been. All I could think of was the horror movie character, Jason, popping out of the forest with his white hockey mask gleaming in the light of the full moon. Of course, Phillip has been many times and reassured me there would be no mass murdering. Fortunately, our friends do have a travel trailer so it wasn't like we were going to sleep in tents. When we arrived at the campground it was not at all what I expected. It wasn't in some secluded area with no power or running water. There were people all around which made me feel really safe. There were playgrounds, a lake with a sandy beach, and there was even a lighthouse. We had a tasty dinner and smores for dessert. I am so glad I can now say I ~~survived~~ have been camping. I truly had a wonderful time and the girls did too!

Memorial Day is a day when we let Daddy tell us all about his Navy escapades without any eyes being rolled or huffs and puffs! Phillip absolutely lights up when he reminisces about his Navy days. During his four years of service, he went all over the world. He went to places like Puerto Rico, St. Martin, Maryland, Massachusetts, Chicago, Virginia, Canada, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Sicily, Sigonella, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, and Tunisia. WOW! I can't imagine going that many places in a lifetime. I am so blessed he chose to be in Education after completing his Navy duties. We love you daddy! Thank you for all that you did for our country (and our little house too)!

Today was the last day of school for all of us! I was able to sneak away from my workday to see the girls celebrating at their school! Mother's Day also makes me think of my sweet grandmother or Maga (maw-ga) as we called her. She passed away several years ago and I miss her terribly. I only wish she could have met my girls.

On a happier note, more than anything, Mother's Day has taken a whole new meaning since I have actually become a mother. There is nothing that gives me greater joy than hearing, "Mommy!"

You have given me a kind of joy that I can only pray you will experience with your own babies. Being a mother is the greatest gift I have ever been given. Right now, I am loving, and I mean loving, watching my girls develop friendships. It is amazing to see the bond that forms so quickly when they meet new friends. I only wish that as adults, it was this easy. Children are so pure, never judgmental, and love unconditionally. My babies inspire me to become a better friend, a better wife, and more than anything, a better mother.

We had a wonderful time grilling, swimming, roasting marshmellows, doing a little DIY mother's day gift for grandparents (will post later), and listening to Mallory's spooky stories. My family is lucky to have you all: Randi, Chris, Chandler, Mindy, and Madison!

Let me begin by saying how thankful I am to work at a school that is located in Talladega County. We are fortunate enough to get long weekends when the race comes to town. I have never been to a race nor have I ever been a raging fan. HOWEVER, I LOVE NASCAR because it provides me with a much needed break!!! The first thing the girls and I did was go grab an ice cream cone from Sonic.

Let me also say that if you have children and do not have one of these handy dandy ice cream cone and popsicle holder...you are missing out! It catches all of the messy drip drops. I picked them up at hobby lobby. It is a must have!

Alright, so when we got home we saw that daddy had begun our huge DIY project. I saw 52 of these:

HOLES EVERYWHERE! We are putting up a picket fence. It has always been a dream of mine to have a picket fence. I mean, isn't that what we all wished for when we were little? I wanted to teach little children...check. I wanted a husband...check. I wanted a house....check. I wanted a family....check, check. Now, I will have my little picket fence to keep my babies safe inside. I can't wait! Although...all of the materials are very overwhelming!

WOW! It has been over a week since my last entry and I am having serious withdrawals. However, I am happy to report that my graduate classes have come to an end and I couldn't be happier!!! Now, I can focus on more important things like...blogging and blog stalking! ha! This weekend was extremely productive. The weather was incredible which meant we got to spend every and all day outside! Phillip and I are working hard to get our landscaping ready for summer. We plan on spending the majority of our time out there so we are fixin it up! The girls love to be outside. The thing I love most is watching them play. I just sit back and marvel at their ability to run endlessly without tiring. I watch how Mallory rescues Sophia when she is too afraid to slide by herself. I watch Sophia's eyes light up when she sees her big sister coming after her. I just can't believe I was chosen to be their mom. What an amazing gift. What did I ever do to deserve them?

So as I said, Phillip and I have been working hard landscaping our yard. The girls even helped! After I realized they were picking the flowers I had just planted, I had to redirect to the swing and trampoline.

Friday night I had a much deserved night out with girls! We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed listening to a live band at the restaurant. Thanks girls!

Saturday was uneventful! Phillip and I did some gardening while the girls ran and ran around the yard. I love this time of year. However, I DO NOT love pollen. Eww-as Mallory would say, "I can't like" pollen.

Sunday we visited a new church. We really loved it! Everyone was so welcoming and eager to get to know us. We really felt at home. We are excited to visit again and hope that God will show us where we need to plant our roots. We will continue to pray for direction and I know God will reveal where we should be.

Where in the world have we been? After our beach trip and Spring Break, our lives have been going at sonic speed! I will be happy to report, however, things have slowed down and I am back and ready to give our weekend update! Friday, Phillip and I ate dinner over at Josh and Jodi's house. We laughed so hard all night. A little giggle therapy is definitely what I needed.

Saturday, we went to Disney Live. IT WAS AMAZING! We had the best seats! The girls were in shock the entire time.

I even found myself in awe at times. I really thought when Cinderella came out I would burst into song. We love her at the Tigue house!

Beach Babes...Final Day

We had to check out at 10:00 and let me tell you that sure was early! This spring break the girls have been going to bed around 11:00 and waking up around 9:00. This has really been great for Phillip and me, however reality really hit this morning when we had to get up early! We returned the bikes and headed to Destin for some much needed shopping. The outlets in Destin are INCREDIBLE!!! The thought of going has consumed me this week and to finally be on my way was very joyful! Beach Babes...Day Three

Today we wanted to really have an adventure. So...picture this...me...on....a...bike. HAHAHAHA! I know, funny right? Well, the town of Seaside and Seagrove are what I would call a "fit" town. Everyone walks, jogs, and rides bikes. Each morning, I have come out on the balcony (as I eat my donuts), and are in awe of all the people up so early exercising. So, we decided to go rent some bikes and peddle around the town. Little did I know the pain that would come after...

After a six mile bike ride, and one heart attack later (totally kidding), we ate at a really nice restaurant for lunch. I tried oysters (baked) for the first time and they were so yummy!

We ended the day by playing on the beach. We are not looking forward to getting up in the morning and leaving. :(

This morning we woke up and had delicious coffee and cinnamon rolls from a little bakery next door. We took baths and headed off for an adventure...

We go back tomorrow at noon to pick these pieces of art up. I can't wait!!! We went and ate out for lunch. We had shrimp and it was so fresh! We ended the afternoon with a trip to the beach. How relaxing it is to hear the waves roaring and crashing while watching your whole life play in the sand.

Yay! We have made it to the beach! The girls did really well on the ride down! We only stopped four times; ahhh, the joys of potty trained little girls. The weather is beautiful. It was very windy today but warm nonetheless. We just hung around the beach house and played in the pool. We ordered take out and enjoyed being together and listening to the ocean from our balcony. After we played outside and had a nice dinner, we decided to go grab dessert from this sweet little place down the road. We had fresh key lime pie and cupcakes! The girls loved it and even met a new friend. Looking forward to tomorrow...

Sunday Night Suppa

Because we will be beach bound in the morning, we had Sunday Night Suppa tonight. We really had a great time visiting with the family tonight. It was so sweet of them to come and spend time with us before we leave on our Spring Break adventure! Nothing says south more than what we had on the menu. We had chicken and dumplings and peanut butter fudge.

Chicken and Dumplings Recipe:

Rotisserie Chicken

32 oz. Chicken Broth

1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup

2-3 Cans of Mini Buttermilk Biscuits (I like a lot of dumplings so I used 3)

Flour

Salt and Pepper

Directions:

Bring broth to a boil. Once boiling, add can cream of chicken soup.

Next, place biscuits on a plate. In another plate add flour, salt, and pepper (just a few pinches of each then mix with a fork). Dredge biscuits in the flour and tear into four pieces. Turn down the heat so it is simmering. Drop pieces in the broth and DO NOT STIR!

After all biscuits are in the broth, take a spoon (AND DO NOT STIR) and dunk the biscuits. Cook for 10 minutes. Shred the rotisserie chicken (I only use the breasts).

Add chicken to dumplings. Dunk the chicken as well. Still, no stirring! :) Cook for about 10 more minutes. Get ready for your taste buds to EXPLODE!

Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe:

My mother found this recipe on the Jiff website. It is so easy to make and there is no baking involved at all!!! Go here for the recipe!

Chocolate Chips and Peanut Butter

Melt them in the microwave and then add Eagle Brand Milk and almond extract.

BE AWARE: It becomes really thick, really quick!!!

Line a baking dish with wax paper and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Spring BREAK

Ahhh, the time has come. Spring break is here and I am overwhelmed with joy! The thought of being home with my family for a solid week is so exciting. What makes it even more exciting is that we are going to be beach bound Sunday. This will be the first time just the four of us have gone on a vacation. It should be interesting!!! Last night I picked up some books for the vacation. I read about one of the books from Kellys Korner. The other book I just happened to see in the store. Phillip is going to read it and then we will swap!

I am really excited to begin this book.I know that it will be life changing and that is exactly what I need right now!

Phillip has already started reading this book. He is really enjoying it.

After a long and rainy day of teaching first graders, I was so ready to get home and relax. However, that was cut short when I realized that daddy had school tonight (working on masters degree). The girls were wild! At one point they were both dressed up with hats, high heels, sunglasses, and purses. Next, they decided jumping off of their toy box would be a blast. Somehow I managed to cook dinner and luckily everyone survived. We ate sausage, corn, biscuits, and oranges. These are my girls' favorite foods so I just try and combine them.

As I am letting my food digest and think I may just fall asleep sitting up, I hear these words come from the playroom, "Mooooom... Fifi has poo poo on her hand." I take off in a sprint (which in itself is a sight to see) to the playroom and OH MY GOSH. FIFI DOES HAVE POO POO ON HER HAND. I scoop her up trying not to touch any of the poo and off we go to the bathroom. I discover that she put her hand in her diaper. Boy, she really had a surprise when she pulled it out didn't she? I lift her to the sink (as I am gagging) and try and wash her hands. BUT-this poo is...hmmm...what can I compare it to? Well, it is the same consistency of clay (gag). THEREFORE-IT WILL NOT JUST WASH OFF (gag). I try and grab some toilet paper to wipe it off and guess what? THERE WAS NONE ON THE ROLL! I have to dig under the sink to get more and by this time Fifi is so grossed out from me gagging and the smell and the fact that she has POO POO on her hand she begins to cry. After I get her hands clean, I go to take her shirt off and LOW AND BEHOLD...

THERE IS MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The weekend STARTED off great! My bestie and I continued our annual trip to Cottontails and met up with other great friends. We shopped for five straight hours! I found the cutest clothes for the girls (which are getting monogrammed and I will post pics when I get them back). I also picked up some unnecessary (but oh so necessary) items for myself! Friday evening I started feeling a little queasy but thought it could be from all of the delicious food I ate during the day. I WAS WRONG! The stomach bug hit around 1:00 a.m. and lasted until Sunday afternoon. I stayed in the bed ALL weekend. I am praying and believing that no one else at my house gets hit!

Today on the way home from school, Gran gave the girls a snack for the ride home. I noticed Sophia was very quiet. I turned around and this is what I saw...

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Tonight we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! Since Phillip and I are both teachers, and love to read, it is only natural that we would try and instill a love of books in our girls. When we got home we watched the Green Eggs and Ham movie and then followed it with an awesome dinner. What was on the menu you ask? Of course it had to be...green eggs and ham! I also made pop up pancakes. One of my good friends, Crystal, told me about finding this recipe on Make and Takes (we are both addicted to this website)! You can find the recipe here. We ended the night by reading the story. The girls love Dr. Seuss! It really is a great way to get kids motivated to read because of the rhyme and repetition. Thank you Dr. Seuss for all of the wonderful books and Happy Birthday!

Sunday Night Suppa

One of the traditions that my entire family has is Sunday night supper (or as we say in the south-"suppa"). My mother, aunts, cousins, and grandfather come to our house and pig out! It is a great time for us to reconnect after not seeing each other for a whole week. I am very close with my family and they all live within five-ten minutes away. I am truly blessed. I don't know if this is an "only child" mentality but, I can't imagine not seeing them on a regular basis. These posts will include the recipes and pictures of our time together!

Tonight I made vegetable soup and HOMEMADE banana pudding. I got the recipe for the pudding from one of my favorite ladies, Christy Jordan.

Vegetable Soup

3 cans diced Italian style tomatoes
1 can pinto beans
1 can red beans
1 can whole white sweet corn (drained)
1 can lima beans
1 can butter beans
2 cups frozen okra
2 cups frozen green beans
1 can new potatoes
1 can tomato paste
2 cans water
1lb. ground beef

Seasoning:
2 bay leaves
Minced garlic (season to taste)
salt and pepper (season to taste)

As I was looking at my refrigerator the other day, I realized I have to find another way to organize the girls beautiful art work. Everyday they are bringing home the cutest crafts and I just throw them on the fridge in layers. I was so excited to remember an email I had gotten several weeks ago from the guys @ Make and Takes. They used a curtain rod to hang art work on (see their post here). I WAS SO EXCITED!!! This is something easy and cheap too!

Winter Cons

There are a lot of things that I love about winter. I love the cold, crisp air. I love the snow that we have gotten this year (and the snow days home from school). I love sitting by the fire and hearing the wood crack and pop. I love the big fluffy sweaters and scarves. I especially love the holidays that come during the winter months. However, I do have one major con about this season...DRY SKIN. Sophia has really suffered most. When she went to the doctor on Tuesday, I showed him her scalp. It looks as if she has cradle cap (or as I sometime accidentally say cradle crap). Her head is so dry and flaky. He called it something in medical terms that I could never repeat, pronounce, or spell. He told me to grease her scalp at night with Eucerin lotion and wash it out the next morning. So, as you can see below...we have one big mess on our hands! She thoroughly enjoyed it though! I imagine it did feel good. Who doesn't love getting a head massage with thick, greasy, cream? Anyway, I am hoping washing it out in the morning will reveal nicely moisturized skin!

I love that they both have the exact same expression. They are also doing the exact same things with their mouths. Their new thing is sucking in their bottom lips. I must tell them that this is not a flattering look (even though there is really nothing they could do to look bad in my eyes).

Daddy Day-Care

The girls stayed home with daddy today. He is such a sweet man! We have to rotate days to stay out with them when they are sick. I took a day Tuesday, Gran Gran on Wednesday, and today was Daddy's day! They had so much fun! Last time he kept them I came home to a beautifully cleaned home and the girls' toenails were painted (remember this post?). Well today, this is what I came home and found.

Needless to say, they had a blast. Who would know that Sophia was sick? Looks like there will be a lot of cleaning tonight! Wish me luck!

Woman Lady

Tonight my oldest daughter (and by oldest I mean 3, but when I say it like that it sounds like I have a 20 year old), called me the most hilarious thing I have ever heard so I had to blog about it. As we were walking to the playroom she says, "Come on woman lady!" I laughed so hard I thought I was going to rupture something. Of course, then, she gets tickled, and then Fifi begins to laugh. It was really a funny moment that I will remember for quite some time. I love the age that my girls are right now. I never know what is going to come out of their mouths.

*Sophia update* Both of the girls stayed home with Gran Gran today. They had a blast. They built tents, snacked all day, had NO discipline, and NO NAP. Thanks Mom!!! Tomorrow they will be staying home with daddy. I can't wait to see what the house looks like when I get home...TBA.

The Flu...Take 4

Sophia woke up this morning with a temperature of 102. She has been a little congested but that has come to be the norm during these winter months. However, there is always a bright red flag waved when one of my babies gets a fever. We went to the doctor this afternoon and she had a positive flu test. This will make the fourth time my poor baby has had the flu. I am just wondering though, how long do you stay positive after you get the flu? Our pediatrician wasn't convinced that the flu was the only thing going on with her. Her throat was extremely inflamed and her right ear looked questionable. We knew what that would mean...a SHOT! She screamed for just a minute and was ready to pick out her sticker! Here she is fast asleep with the stickers close at hand. She is saving one to give to her big sister. Precious...

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend we had A LOT on our agenda! Friday night I spent some well needed time with some of my best girlfriends. We had a get together over at Jodi's house. It was, well, definitely interesting!

Saturday was a low key evening. We stayed in and enjoyed family time together. These are my most favorite nights! We ordered Outback and played all night! The girls played a little too hard. So much so, they had to take a "time out" for being ugly and not sharing!

Sunday we woke up to the most beautiful weather. We knew instantly we needed to go to the zoo! The girls had a blast! Their favorite part was feeding the lorikeets. They were so brave and didn't even flinch when the birds would land on them. I couldn't believe it! I was scared to death! I didn't want those birds coming anywhere near me!

After the zoo, because we weren't exhausted enough, we headed on over to the Galleria. The girls have never been to Build-A-Bear and we were in the area so, hey, why not? Let me just say that it was....a...disaster. Maybe this is why we have yet to go. The girls were so overwhelmed. They could not make a decision. But then again, they truly get it honest. I have trouble picking out bread. Fifi wanted a bear, then she saw a bunny, then a cat, then a dog, and Mallory wanted a chipmunk which they DID NOT HAVE, then she wanted Hello Kitty. Next, (before deciding on an animal) they saw all of the clothes and shoes to dress up the stuffed toys. Well, of course they wanted to go ahead and accessorize the animals that they HAD NOT PICKED OUT! Long story short, Mallory chose a bear (which she thinks is a chipmunk) and Sophia chose the sweetest bunny. It turned out to be really neat. They got to put a heart in them and give them a bath! However, we will wait a long while before going back! :)

Tonight I had class (I am working on my master's degree-I will be finished this summer) and when I got home my girls looked so beautiful that I just had to take pictures! I could stare at them forever. I look at these pictures and am just reminded how precious this time is. I know that I will probably turn around twice and they will be grown.

MeatLove and one hot mess!

Tonight my honey made us not meatloaf, but meatLOVE. It was so yummy!

We followed this yummy meal with what we thought would be so fun to make and eat. It was a hot mess!!! Earlier in the week a fellow blogger, Beth (whom I adore), had the cutest recipe for meringue ice cream cones. This was so precious that I had to try it!!! I am by no means a great cook or baker but I thought this would be fail proof. It all started with the meringue...

No fluff. No peaks. What had I done wrong? I beat this meringue to death trying to get some fluff. It finally got a little thicker. However, I am positive there was never a peak or even a valley. Maybe it was closer to a rolling hill. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and fold in the m&ms. I then transferred scoops of the "mixture" to the baking sheet. I predicted it would all run together and form a great big blob. It didn't, but then again, things aren't over yet.

(yes, my daughters look homeless because I have been so busy whipping the meringue and have not had the chance to wipe their face or comb their hair)

After about 15 minutes of putting the meringue in the oven I began to smell smoke. Hmmm, surely not. Oh yes! THEY WERE BURNING. I immediately pulled out the ones that were on the bottom rack and got this...

WHAT...IS....THIS????? Did I just make pancakes? You will be happy to know that the other pans were alright and continued to cook without burning. In the meantime I got the cones ready.

I totally got this right (there was no cooking involved in this step). Alright so, the timer goes off and I get the meringue out of the oven and begin to transfer to the cooling racks. Well, guess what happens??? THEY BEGIN TO CRACK AND BREAK. Long story short, I did manage to save most of them. Mine did not turn out as cute as Beth's did. But, they tasted yummy and the girls LOVED them! That's what it's all about, right?

As an educator of young children, nothing used to irk me more than hearing my students call this sweet upcoming holiday, "Valentime's Day". However, now as a parent of a two and three year old, nothing brings me more joy than hearing that word! Tonight as we were addressing our Valentine cards, Mally and Fifi kept chanting, "Happy Valentimes Day!" It was just precious! I would also like to add that Dora continually irks me and I hope they grow out of this phase of their life VERY soon! D-D-D-D-D-Dora....

A Heavy Heart...

I am writing tonight with a heavy heart. There has been so much sickness and death surrounding people that I know. Parents discovering their child has a brain tumor and another family losing their child tragically and unexpectedly. It has made me really reevaluate my life and faith. It has made me cling closer to my girls. It has made me cling closer to my God. I wish I could say that I understood why horrible things happen. I wish I could not worry about the future and completely rely on His word. He has told me to do this. But my, oh my, it is so hard. All too often I think that I hold the map to my future; that I am in the driver's seat and everything should happen in the order in which it is planned by me! How can I rely on a map or a path for which I do not hold in my hands? How can I question what is in store for me when Christ is the ONLY one who knows? That is something that is weighing heavily right now on my heart. I want to give it all to Him.

Nashville News...

This weekend Phillip and his band, Valley Road, were invited to play in Nashville, Tennessee. We debated on going because Mallory was sick, but in the long run decided she would be just fine with Gran Gran. This was a bittersweet trip because it was the first trip just he and I had taken alone since our honeymoon. We left right after school on Friday and they performed at 11:00 that night. The next morning we got up and visited the HUGE mall and it was the highlight for Phillip! What is wrong with this picture? Shouldn't I be feeling that way about a mall? Phillip wanted to go in the Gibson store to see all of the mandolins. Needless to say, we were there for a while and he was in heaven! All in all, it was a good trip. I realized that there needs to be more times like these when we can devote our time to each other. It is so easy to get caught up in the fast pace of life and lose sight of each other. We will definitely be planning another trip soon.

Because Mallory has strep throat, she got to take a sick day with daddy Friday. We decided to let Fifi stay home too! When I got home, I was thrilled to see that the house had been cleaned and the girls had PINK fingernails and toenails! How precious!?!

Barking Seal

I was awoken this morning to the sound of a barking seal. I had to concentrate at first to make sure I wasn't still in dream land. Unfortunately, I was not. The horrid sound was coming from the girls' room. It was Mallory. I knew instantly that we would be taking a trip to the doctor. After a short wait, we were in and the test was positive. Streptococcus was the diagnosis. STREP THROAT!!! Immediately after, I asked for Sophia to be "swabbed". Her test was negative, but we were warned that she would probably be next. Mallory had to get an injection. She did not cry, but she did SCREAM! Here's to a weekend of health!

Mallory got a sticker for being such a big girl! She even asked to get one for her sister! So thoughtful!

Today when I picked up the girls from school I discovered that Fifi was not in her usual classroom. Today, my baby, moved to the two year old class. This means no pacifier, no sippy cup, and no more diapers. Although I do know it is time to throw ALL of those out the window, it is just hard to believe. Her teachers said she had a little trouble adjusting to the fact that her big sister, Mally, was in the next room. She couldn't understand why she couldn't be with her. Being an only child, I can't imagine having a sister to play with, cry with, laugh with, fight with, eat with, sleep with, and grow up with. The bond that my two girls have is so evident and it breaks my heart to know she was sad because she couldn't have her Mally. I know it will get easier. I know it will take time. I know I will worry because that is what mothers do.

Today my baby girl turned two! I can't believe how the time has flown. I have thought a lot today and this past weekend about how fortunate I am to have her. She has been such a blessing in my life and I thank God for her. We had a wonderful and LONG weekend celebration! Her birthday party was Saturday morning and we went to the circus on Sunday. This year she was really overwhelmed with being "fussed" over. When we sang happy birthday to her she crawled under the table and hid until it was over. She is so funny! However, she had no reservations about opening her gifts! Sunday we went to the circus and after thirty minutes she was fast asleep. How can children sleep anywhere? It was so loud! Mallory really enjoyed it though. She said her favorite part was when the villain, "Jokert" lost his pants. Sophia eventually woke up and got her second wind. I was thrilled because I wanted her to enjoy the VIP TICKETS HER MOTHER AND FATHER PURCHASED (waste). Today was her actual birthday so I took treats to school for her and the other kids to eat. She came home with the cutest hat that the teachers had made for her. I LOVE her teachers! It is getting late now. The girls are fast asleep. All seems really well with the world. I am so blessed...

Sophia Peri

Having Sophia was a breeze! It was an amazing delivery and there were no complications. However, the moment the doctor placed her on my chest, I knew...I just knew, something was terribly wrong. It seemed like she was breathing awfully fast and with each breath her little chest caved in. The nurse took her from my arms and a team began examining her. They proceeded to keep her in my room and this was extremely hard to watch. I had only held her for a second. I had not counted toes, I had not rubbed her head, I had not embraced my child like a mother needs to do. They told me she was not getting enough oxygen and needed to be taken to the NICU. I felt like I was having an out of body experience. They rushed her out and I knew nothing. We waited for hours until the neonatologist came and told us what was happening. Sophia had something called tachypnea. This meant her breathing rate was too rapid. It can also be related to an infection in the lungs. I can't explain the horror of knowing your baby is sick. I kept crying out to God telling him that I would not be strong enough if something happened to my baby. He listened to my cries. He gave me a peace that let me know she would be healed by His grace. Two LONG weeks later, Sophia came home from the NICU. It was Valentine's Day. One of my happiest memories that I have. Sophia recovered fully and is an incredible and smart child. She is so kind-hearted and loves her sister, Mally (which she re-named her) more than anyone. Thank you God, thank you for your incredible healing powers that kept my baby.

Round Two

Phillip and I could not believe that we were pregnant! This was a complete and WONDERFUL surprise! We could not comprehend that Mallory was going to have a sibling. I had an overload of emotion and fear. I was so happy that Mallory would not be an only child, yet, I was scared that I wouldn't know how to divvy my time between two children! I was already exhausted with just one! I had to really trust in the plan that God had for our life. My faith gave me reassurance that everything would work! It had to! My pregnancy was very similar to the first with the exception of size. This baby felt much bigger and I was more in tune with movements, kicks, and cravings! I loved eating pepperoni and bacon! Phillip would fix bacon for me at just about every meal! We found out the sex of our second baby when I was only 16 weeks pregnant. This baby was very cooperative and we were thrilled to find out it was....ANOTHER GIRL!!!

The first year of Mallory's life was incredible. It was a lot of learning for Phillip and me, but totally worth every moment. The pictures above are from her very first birthday! It was a VERY hot day. We had tents set up outside but because it was so hot, we spent most of the day inside. Of course, she had a blast! She made a total mess with her cake and got a lot of presents! Who knew that this would also be a day that Phillip and I would receive a present? After all of our guests had left, and Mallory was sound asleep, we started reminiscing about the previous year of her life and discovered that something was missing from this month. Long story short and two pregnancy tests later...we were going to have another little baby.

After a long pregnancy filled with happiness, joy, high blood pressure, swollen limbs, and a nice lunch at O'Charley's (which is where my water broke), Mallory Lou was born on June 9, 2006. Although she was born three weeks early, she weighed 6 pounds and 4 ounces. She was absolutely perfect. Completely healthy, pink, and crying the sweetest sound you have ever heard. I could go on and on about how wonderful my experience was giving birth. Since it was so amazing I just assumed we would be ready to head home ASAP. I was soon let down when the pediatrician told me that I would be going home without my newborn baby. Mallory's jaundice levels were too high and she needed another night in the "tanning bed." Phillip and I were devastated but knew we had no choice. So, we went home, empty handed, sad, and praying that first thing in the morning we would get to take her home. Our prayers were answered when we arrived at the hospital to discover her levels were normal and we could take her home! God is so good. We came home and began our journey into parenthood. It has been the most amazing journey and I thank God for the opportunity He has given us.

The Best...

From the beginning of my relationship with Phillip, we always talked about how eager we would be to start a family once we were married. I, being an only child, and he, the oldest of five, both wanted a huge family. Little did we know we would get our blessing from God two months after we were married. It was the happiest, scariest, and most incredible feeling! I never expected to get pregnant so quickly. I was talking with a colleague and discovered I had been miscalculating my cycles. I was not only one day late, I was over a week late! I knew instantly that I HAD to be pregnant! I was very tired, emotional, and could NOT get enough of chocolate ice cream. Immediately after school I picked up a test, came home, took it, and before I could even stand up it was totally positive! I was in utter shock! I knew I would only have a short time until Phillip arrived home so I quickly came up with a special way to tell him. I made a big card and wrote, "Because of you and me...this was made..." and I taped the test to it. I also put in an Allison Krauss c.d. (Baby of Mine) and turned up the volume. When he walked in the door I watched his face (as I hid in the hallway). It was amazing to see his world change as I watched. We cried, we laughed, and we became prayer warriors for our little embryo.

After becoming addicted to reading everyone's personal and family blogs, I decided it may just be time to create my own! I want to preserve my memories for I know one day this will be a precious gift for my family. Where shall I begin? I am married to a wonderful man, who absolutely swept me off my feet. Phillip and I met at college while pursuing our Elementary Education degree. He quickly became my best friend and we were inseparable. After being friends for a few years and officially dating for one, we took our vows on August 13, 2005. We were married in the most beautiful church (not our home church which meant we had to pay out of the wazoo to rent). However, I only plan on marrying one time and I wanted to be married in that church! It was perfect. Our honeymoon was equally perfect! Where did we go you may be asking? Well, there was only one place that two fun loving kiddos COULD GO...DISNEY WORLD! We had so much fun! I would like to mention though, that I DID NOT buy one of those Mickey Mouse hats with a veil. I get so tickled every time I see those! Looking back, maybe I should have gotten one! Haha! When we arrived home, we were ecstatic to begin our lives together. We also had just began our first teaching jobs, me in first grade, and Phillip in fifth. Our life had officially begun, or so we had thought. The best was only yet to come...

My Story

First and foremost I am a follower of Christ. He has given me blessings beyond my imagination. I am an only child with a wonderful mother who gave me everything my heart could ever desire. She also inspired me to become a teacher. It was at college that I met my love, Phillip. We were married in August 2005. He has totally changed my life and fulfilled a void that I didn't even know I had. Three months after getting married we discovered we were pregnant with our first child, Mallory Lou (named after my great-grandfather and grandfather). She was born three weeks early on June 9, 2006. We found out we were pregnant with our second child exactly one day after Mallory's first birthday AND it was Father's Day!!! Sophia Peri (named after Phillip's daddy) was born on February 1, 2008. My daughters make me want to be a better person. They inspire me. I love their innocence and purity. I love the way they can make me feel whole when I feel lost and incomplete. They are my life.

I began this blog as an ongoing diary that my daughters could cherish the rest of their lives. To my two God-given angels, I love you and thank you for giving me the greatest gift I have ever received, parenthood.
